Case Study: How We Revamped a Nonprofit’s Website for Maximum Community Impact

Katrina Adams

When Katrina, founder of  POC Collaborative Resource Center, came to me, she had a mission to empower and uplift the Omaha community, but the website was falling short. It wasn’t as engaging or accessible as she needed it to be, and she wanted a digital space that truly reflected her organization’s commitment to serving everyone. Our goal was to create a site that not only looked great but also fostered community, accessibility, and meaningful engagement.

Challenge

The nonprofit’s original site struggled with outdated design elements and a layout that didn’t cater to the diverse needs of their audience. Key information was buried, and the user experience made it difficult for visitors to connect with the nonprofit’s mission or get involved. Accessibility was also a concern, as the site lacked the necessary features to be inclusive for all community members.

Our Approach

We started by putting community at the center of our design strategy. We worked to create a welcoming experience that made it easy for visitors to learn about the nonprofit’s initiatives and take action. This meant simplifying navigation, making donation options more prominent, and featuring community stories to build a stronger connection.

Accessibility was another major focus. We implemented features such as high-contrast text options, alt text for images, and an intuitive, mobile-friendly layout to ensure everyone could engage with the site effortlessly. Our design was also mindful of diverse audiences, ensuring the content was clear and easily digestible.

Finally, we prioritized engagement. We added interactive elements, like event sign-ups and volunteer opportunities, to encourage visitors to participate. The site now serves as a hub for community involvement, making it simple for users to connect, engage, and support the nonprofit’s mission.

Outcome

The rebranded website transformed how the nonprofit connected with its community. Visitor engagement increased significantly, with a notable rise in event sign-ups and volunteer interest. The new design made the site accessible to a broader audience, ensuring everyone felt included and inspired to participate. The nonprofit now has a digital presence that truly embodies their mission of community service and inclusivity.

This project was all about making the nonprofit’s website a space where community, accessibility, and engagement come together seamlessly. If your organization needs a site that brings people together and drives impact, we’re here to help make it happen.
