Your website should do more than just look good—it should work for you. If visitors are landing on your site but not converting into inquiries or sales, there’s a reason. The good news? You don’t need a complete website overhaul to see better results. Small, strategic fixes can make a big impact.
Here are five website updates you can make this week to start turning visitors into clients.
If a potential client lands on your website and has to search for what to do next, they’ll likely leave. Your CTA—whether it’s booking a call, purchasing a product, or filling out a contact form—should be easy to find. One common mistake business owners make is using vague messaging that doesn’t tell visitors exactly what action to take. If your homepage simply says, “Let’s connect” or “Learn more,” it’s time for a change. Clear, action-oriented language like “Book a Strategy Call” or “Start Your Project” removes friction and makes it easier for visitors to convert.
Your CTA should guide visitors to take action without hesitation.
When someone lands on your website, they should immediately understand what you do, who you serve, and why it matters. If your messaging is vague or full of industry jargon, potential clients may leave without taking the next step. If your messaging feels unclear or inconsistent, it might be time to revisit your brand strategy.
A strong message builds trust and makes it easier for visitors to see why they should work with you. A great place to start is your homepage headline. Instead of saying, “Helping businesses grow,” focus on a specific transformation: “Helping service providers launch strategic websites that attract more leads.” Small tweaks like this can make a major difference in engagement.
A slow-loading website can drive visitors away before they even see what you offer. Speed plays a critical role in user experience, and search engines like Google prioritize fast-loading sites in search rankings.
Images are one of the biggest culprits of slow load times. If your site features large, uncompressed images, it could be slowing down your performance. This is why I always recommend using compressed images and optimized file formats—especially when updating a website for a rebrand or new brand photography shoot.
A fast website keeps potential clients engaged and makes it more likely they’ll stick around.
Your website navigation should make it easy for visitors to find what they need without unnecessary clicks. If you’ve recently expanded your services or pivoted your business, your navigation may need a refresh to reflect your most relevant offers.
For example, when updating a Squarespace website for a scientist we streamlined the navigation to highlight the research lab, making it easier for visitors to review current research. Removing clutter and prioritizing essential pages can reduce bounce rates and encourage visitors to stay longer.
The easier it is for visitors to navigate your site, the more likely they are to take action.
Potential clients want to see that you’re credible and can deliver results. Social proof—such as testimonials, case studies, or client logos—helps build trust and reinforces why someone should work with you.
If you’ve recently launched a new website or rebranded, showcasing before-and-after transformations can be a powerful way to highlight your expertise. In a recent project for a former athlete and hitting coach, we used client videos and testimonials to demonstrate how strategic design led to increased engagement and conversions.
People feel more confident investing in your services when they see others have had a great experience.
You don’t need to wait months for a website redesign to start booking more clients. These five fixes can make a noticeable difference in how visitors engage with your site and whether they take action.
